Thank you for the detailed report @dsoasti. The error you're seeing is a 429 rate limit from OpenRouter when using the free tier of meta-llama/llama-3.3-70b-instruct:free.

What happened

Open Router's free models have strict rate limits. When you tried to generate a design, the upstream provider returned a 429 status, which Open CoDesign correctly surfaces as a PROVIDER_ERROR (error code: PROVIDER_ERROR). The log confirms:

The error window appeared because the generation failed – it's the app's way of notifying you that the request didn't go through.

How to resolve

• Wait and retry – Free OpenRouter rate limits reset after a short period (usually a few minutes). Try your prompt again later.
• Use a paid model – Switch to a non-free model like meta-llama/llama-3.3-70b-instruct (without :free) and add your OpenRouter API key in settings. Paid tiers have much higher rate limits.
• Use a different provider – Configure a different model (e.g., Claude, GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek) via your own API key or a direct provider connection.

Code context

Error handling for provider failures lives in apps/desktop/src/main/ipc/generate.ts (around line 120–150) where the main process captures provider errors and forwards them to the renderer. The specific error message comes from the pi-ai adapter in packages/providers/.

We have seen similar reports (e.g., #385, #372) – this is expected behavior for rate-limited free endpoints and not a bug in Open CoDesign itself.
