All four spots that must stay in sync: crates/deacon/Cargo.toml (the one release.yml validates the tag against), crates/core/Cargo.toml, the deacon-core dependency in the root Cargo.toml, and Cargo.lock via `cargo update -p deacon -p deacon-core`. The diff is ten lines and contains only version lines. v0.4.0 was tagged 2026-08-16 and main is 79 commits ahead. Over that range the conventional-commit tally is 3 feat, 43 fix, 18 chore, 12 docs, and no breaking markers, which on 0.x is a minor bump. Not 1.0: that is a deliberate milestone with its own roadmap rather than a mechanical consequence of this range. CHANGELOG.md is deliberately untouched. It carries only [Unreleased] and [Pre-history] and has never been rolled for a release; its last edit is an ancestor of v0.4.0, so everything under [Unreleased] has already shipped and rolling it into a 0.5.0 heading would misattribute it. Worth resolving separately, one way or the other.
