Screen reader announces concatenated and unclear dialog information #407
Open any dialog keeping screen reader open having Close button.
Observer the pattern screen readers reads the text
Current behavior
NVDA announces unclear and concatenated information such as “ close dialog”. The dialog title, close button, and dialog role are not announced in a clear and structured manner. The announcement combines multiple pieces of information together, making it difficult to understand:
whether focus is on the dialog container or the close button
whether “close” refers to an action or part of the dialog title
which element currently has focus
This creates ambiguity in the dialog context and navigation.
The screen readers do not narate the content of the dialog as well. The content of the dialog needs to be read clearly and correctly when a dialog is opened. Issue is not seen in MUI.
Expected behavior
The dialog title, role, and controls should be announced separately and clearly. Example: “New channel dialog” followed by “Close dialog button” and focus directly on “Channel name edit”.
Screen reader announcements should provide clear separation between:
dialog title
dialog role
focused element
control labels
without concatenated or misleading phrases.
Screen readers should also read the contents of the dialog. The contents of dialog is not read when a dialog is opened.
