feature request: job queueing for creating checksums #215

Open

Description

@nutpantz

right now if i create check-sums for two directories there is no job queuing, both open in their own window and run at the same time. which can be a lot slower then if the jobs were sequential .

it would be nice if when users create new jobs to create check-sums for folders and job queuing is enabled, each job itself would wait until the previous one was finished before starting.

multipar which creates Parfiles ( and not checksums) works in this fashion. multipar says in the header "waiting" or "creating" for each window opened for each job. that makes it very easy to create for multiple files in large folders at a time. when one job is finished it automatically starts the next job window

If you enable job queueing in the options, this is how it should work. Does something different happen on your system?

On my system using the latest release yesterday. The hashing of files starts immediately in all windows as soon as they are started. There is no queue other then the queueing of individual files in each separate job. The jobs run concurrently.
I start one job it runs immediately,i start a second job while the first job is still running and the second job opens a new windows and starts immediately. I start the jobs by highlighting the folder containing the files and using the second mouse button to open the context menus and choose the hash i want created..

Have you checked "Enable Job Queueing" in the options dialog?

If it is not opening a second window , should it show the jobs in the main window?

How do you tell how many jobs you have queued

ok maybe i have it working.
on a fresh boot it may be queueing jobs now.
but once it listed all files and started creating hashes for the files listed.
another time it just showed each file as it hashed it
it lists job one at the top, but never lists another job section. ( should i create a bug for that?)
( so i am not sure do i get to create a new file or is it appending to the last job)

it seems to be working and ill keep testing.

    update
after about an hour a section for job 6 and another section for job 7 showed up as they were processed but everything after job 1 to job 6 had no sections.

still looking for a way to see what or how many queues i have... LOL
( i think i will make a feature request for that)

after hitting job 8, now all jobs are listed in their own sections.
i will check if this bug happens again before making a bug report.
