Name the companion build, exclude your own gear, report a camera we missed - #29
Conversation
…issed Three things field reports asked for and never got. The companion's build has been on the wire since v0.88 and on the health screen since, but nothing ever compared it to the app's. The sketch's own comment says the two "MUST equal" and calls the app-side check the missing half, so this is it. Discussion #26 asked for the version pair AND asked not to be told to reflash on a release where nothing on the board changed, which is most of them, so the two signals are separated: the build pairing answers "which build am I running" and the signature revision answers "do I have to reflash". A paired board says nothing new. An unpaired one with a current signature table reads "old FW, sigs OK". A stale signature table now interrupts the scan screen, where it is the only companion staleness worth stopping a drive for. There was no way to tell the app a device is yours. Asked for directly in discussion #27, where a tester's own phone and household gear filled his list across a week of drives until he stopped trusting any row on screen. "It's mine: never alert" writes ignored.txt beside learned.txt, same format and same parser, opposite polarity, and the gate runs above every scoring rung including Confirmed. It takes effect on the next line rather than the next app start, because the operator presses it while something is beeping at them. A generic skeleton is refused, the mirror image of refusing one when learning: suppressing a commodity hash would hide every device that carries it, cameras included. diag.csv gains rej_ignored (schema v4) so a report from a card that is suppressing something says so. Nothing could express "there is a camera right here and you reported nothing". That is the most common thing a tester actually experiences and the only data that can measure recall, and every report received so far arrived unlabelled, which is why the question that could not be answered from any of them was which row was the camera the reporter could see. Missed Camera Report records the claim at the pole with the position, the per-stage drop counters that separate a deaf radio from a companion that heard the street and recognised none of it, and the full survey. Randomised addresses print in full there and registered ones drop to their OUI: an invented address belongs to nobody and is itself the signature, a real one belongs to a resident. Verified on hardware: paired board stays silent, a 0.99 build against a 0.98 board reads "old FW, sigs OK", an excluded device kept transmitting and logged rej_ignored=6 while staying out of the table, Forget Ignored brought it back, and the missed report came out with the address policy applied. 5179 host checks pass.

…the Locator killing the survey Nine correctness fixes from a full review, all small: - locate_kind is cleared on Locator exit; it gated the survey poll and the GPS-relay re-send and was never reset, so one Lock-in silenced both for the rest of the run. - esp_connected now falls after 5 s without a companion line (header "ESP?", one vibro); it used to fall only on scene entry. - gps_valid now expires 5 s after the last fix instead of only on an explicit lost-lock sentence. - The scan kickoff is remembered and re-sent after a companion reboot, which boots Wi-Fi-only. - hits.csv is written to hits.tmp and swapped in, with every write checked, instead of truncated in place every 30 s. - Remote ID detections restored from hits.csv can alert again. - The D-line field array holds all five trailers (was 10 slots for 12 fields); a test pins the all-trailers line. - Back is swallowed while the flasher worker is running. - A GATT-identified Raven is classed acoustic, not ALPR. Verified on hardware: survey.csv and hits.csv keep updating after a Locator round trip, no hits.tmp left behind, bench Raven shows ST:. The silent-companion and reboot re-send paths need a physical unplug and are not yet hardware-verified.
The SSID in a probe request names the network the sender is looking for, not the sender. A phone probing for "Flock-A1B2C3" was stored as a CONFIRMED camera under the phone's MAC. Capped at Likely in parse_flock(), the same trust boundary that re-derives a claimed Confirmed, so it holds against an un-reflashed companion; the companion applies the same cap on its side. Also in this pass: - BLE "Penguin" naming is anchored on "Penguin-" (app and companion). - Companion: a probe RESPONSE addressed to a tracked prefix takes the same receive-side rung as a directed request. - Companion: the BLE address-prefix fallback requires a public address. - Bench emitter identity 12: a no-table MAC sending a directed probe for "Flock-A1B2C3". Must read Likely; identity 2 (same name, beacon) must still Confirm. Verified on hardware with the emitter: the previous build stored identity 12 at Confirmed, this one stores it at Likely, and the beacon identity is unchanged. The companion-side changes are compile-verified (classic ESP32 and S2, core 2.x) and not yet flashed.
…t they say - Holding OK while the alert card is up now acts on the card's device, not on the row hidden underneath it. - Clear Saved Hits empties the whole table; rows found earlier in the same run used to be written back by the next save. - A Mark toggled on the detail screen sets hits_dirty. - A survey row matching a learned fingerprint or flagged MAC is reported only when its running count has moved, not on every poll. - One shared FLOCK_FTYPE_SET for the store and the report formatter; the formatter's private copy lacked 'S'. - .gitignore covers handoff, notes and internal docs by doc extension. Hardware-verified: the card hold and Clear Saved Hits. The survey gate and the detail Mark are host/compile-verified.
… Flock table 3c:71:bf is registered to Espressif; every other Espressif prefix was already rejected as a chip vendor, and this one predated that sweep. 82:6b:f2 has the locally-administered bit set, so it is not a registered prefix. Both are blocked in the parity gate, the declared counts move to 30, and the test asserts neither matches. README states the transmission pledge as: personal identifiers are never transmitted.
The tables block (19.3 KB, one allocation) is freed for the flasher plugin and re-allocated on exit. With ~24 KB free and a ~17 KB largest block on a loaded firmware, that allocation could fail after the plugin had fragmented the heap, and malloc halts the device rather than returning NULL. RECON_WIFI_MAX and RECON_BLE_MAX go from 48 to 8 (their only reader lists rows nothing marks any more), which returns 5.6 KB, and recon_tables_acquire() checks the largest free block and falls back to four allocations instead of halting. Back is locked only during the flash write, not during connect or a backup. Verified on hardware: full 4 MB backup, exit, app exit, no reboot; free heap at the menu 24080 -> 29688.

Do not let eight BLE advertisers block later tracker sightings.
recon_app_ble_add stores the first eight distinct BLE addresses and has no eviction path when ble_count reaches RECON_BLE_MAX. In an area with eight earlier advertisers, a later tracker never enters the BLE table. This also prevents the table’s freshness-dependent tracking paths from seeing it. Preserve capacity for relevant devices, or evict stale and lower-priority entries before reducing this limit.

… stored - The flash Back lock brackets flash_file() in the worker, so it covers the erase, which runs before the first progress callback. Connect and backup stay cancellable. - recon_hits_load() completes an interrupted save: no hits.csv next to a complete hits.tmp can only mean the rename did not happen. - Excluding a device purges matching rows already in the table, and the lists are reconciled against restored hits at start-up and after the flasher reloads them. - An exclusion that cannot store the address fails as a whole, and the hit menu keeps the row (with the error tone) unless it was saved. - Clear Saved Hits reports a refused delete instead of emptying the list. - The 8-row BLE table reuses its stalest unmarked row when full. - .gitignore covers lower- and mixed-case handoff and notes names. - Version 0.99 in application.fam and the companion sketch; changelog gains Verified and Not-fixed sections. Hardware-verified on v0.99: interrupted-save recovery, exclusion purge (row gone from the list and hits.csv, address in ignored.txt), Back cancelling during connect, and a restored drone alerting on its first live sighting.

Coordinate Back handling with the start of flash_file().
fw_writing is a volatile bool, and the worker and Back handler access it without synchronization. Back can read false after connect() succeeds but before the worker sets the flag. The handler then returns false, and on_exit() can abort the worker after flashing starts. Use a mutex-protected transition and pending-exit state so Back either blocks once flashing starts or prevents the worker from starting it. Do not hold the mutex during flash_file(); its callbacks acquire that mutex.

A commodity probe skeleton is refused, the mirror image of refusing one when learning: suppressing a shared hash would hide every device carrying it, cameras included.
diag.csvgains arej_ignoredcolumn (schema v4) so a report from a card that is suppressing something says so instead of looking like a dead radio. Undo is Reports > Forget Ignored (n), which also makes a months-old exclusion visible at all.Let me report a camera it missed
Nothing could express "there is a camera right here and you reported nothing". That is the most common thing a field tester actually experiences, and the only data that can ever measure recall. Every report received so far arrived unlabelled, which is why the question that could not be answered from any of them was which row was the camera the reporter could physically see.
Reports > Missed Camera Report records the claim at the pole, with:
Randomised addresses print in full, registered ones drop to their OUI. An invented address belongs to nobody and is itself the signature; a globally unique one belongs to a resident.
Verification
On the bench, with the companion on GPIO and the emitter running:
READY: capture OKREADY: old FW, sigs OKwith the signature revision still matching (throwaway bump, reverted)rej_ignored=6while staying out of the table, withrej_conf=0; the session row before the exclusion reads 05179 host checks pass,
ufbtbuilds clean, ufbt lintis clean, andcheck_oui_parity.pypasses.Not fixed here
The Locator wedge reported in #27, where the board had to be reset after leaving Locator, did not reproduce on this bench. The mechanism I expected is provably handled: any command that re-tasks the radio clears the channel lock and locator state, and leaving the scene sends one. Detection resumed instantly every time. Different board, so this is a negative result rather than a refutation.
What did show up is adjacent and worth its own look: while the Locator is waiting for a target that has not transmitted yet, it prints "no board? tap its RESET". The link was demonstrably healthy the whole time. The app knows the difference between a silent companion and a silent target, so that hint can be made to stop blaming the board.
