Trademark infringement complain from enf.whatsapp.2092616@enf-meta.com

A few weeks ago I setup a Android app called USA Group Links that lists Group links for WhatsApp , since then I have been getting trademark infringement complains from a company called: enf-meta.com.

Is this legit? I emailed the WhatsApp customer support and they said it is not them. They are also not mailing from a @meta.com email address.

These types of complaints are typically legitimate, especially when they come from IP & DNS Enforcement Group in Menlo Park. The "enf" in "enf-meta" stands for "enforcement." Check out #138 for more details.

The best advice would be to follow the instructions in the letter which should say something along the lines of

the domain name XYZ contains the ABC trademark

Try changing XYZ to not contain ABC.

For instance:

We write on behalf of WhatsApp LLC regarding the hosting and use of the domain name whatsapp-proxy.example.com which contains the famous WHATSAPP trademark.

Change whatsapp-proxy.example.com to something more like vanilla-proxy.example.com

I received an email from these same people today through Cloudflare and my domain registrar, and I asked CHatGPT to confirm if this was genuine and they told me that it has no relation to Facebook or any of its brands and that it is possibly spam or phishing.

Likewise, they tried to contact me through my registrar and Cloudflare. I simply ignored the message. My app is still working, so I'm not doing anything illegal.

I received an email from these same people today through Cloudflare and my domain registrar, and I asked CHatGPT to confirm if this was genuine and they told me that it has no relation to Facebook or any of its brands and that it is possibly spam or phishing.

I'm telling you, some time later, the company that manages the domain (Nominalia), in this case my domain was whatsappi.net, revoked my access to my DNS settings and other features. Although my website is still operational, the registrar removed it from the administration panel... I even received letters from lawyers and a certified physical letter to an old office address of mine in Bogotá, Colombia.

I asked ChatGPT about all of this, and it suggested I tell them I wasn't interested in the domain anymore, that they could proceed, and I would just register another one. In short: META INC will indeed take your domain without further ado. To avoid complicating my life at that time, I preferred to migrate to another domain and save myself unnecessary stress.
