5tratumOS

5tratumOS is the host platform, WebUI, update surface, and install media for running the 5tratum/AxeSuite app family on dedicated hardware.

Fresh install: full bootable images

The current installer media release is v0.8.7. Download the image for your machine and its matching checksum. Earlier media remains available at v0.5.00.

Version 0.8.7 corrects a first-boot network timing issue found in the 0.8.6 Proxmox test. See the release notes for the latest validation status.

The installation bundle is 5tratumos-update-v0.8.7.tgz (also supplied as 5tratumos-update.tgz), with a matching .sha256. It contains the OS payload, bootstrap installer and service definitions used by the Linux and Raspberry Pi helpers; it is not a bootable disk image. See the installation guide.

The Raspberry Pi image has passed ARM64 content, checksum and filesystem checks. It has not been boot-tested on physical Raspberry Pi hardware.

Existing installation: update in the WebUI

Open Settings → Updates, choose your update channel, and check for updates. The current MAIN release is v0.8.7. DEV is v0.8.7-dev, with the same runtime changes.

Version 0.8.7 refreshes the UEFI, BIOS and Raspberry Pi installation media and the Linux/Pi helpers. Fresh installs retain the embedded version and update channel, the ISO uses Debian's normal graphics detection, and the Pi installer waits for kiosk setup before its final reboot. It also includes the Orbit FracAttack correction while retaining the optional-download behaviour below.

After upgrading, a full-screen welcome offers Enter Orbit or Keep Classic. Orbit provides independent app windows, snapping, fleet and system widgets, and the animated 5TRATUSPHERE world. Both interfaces use your normal device address. Your selected interface is remembered in that browser and can be changed in Settings.

Orbit is available without a MUX licence. MUX-specific features use 5tratMux’s own licence and trial. 5tratMux and other apps retain their own versions and update controls; an OS update does not activate a trial.

MUXFLIGHT 0.1.1 is an optional, separate download for users with a valid paid 5tratMux licence or an active signed trial (access ends when the trial expires): 152,224,955 bytes (145.2 MiB). Enable it from Orbit after updating. Graphics run in the viewing browser, with selectable quality levels; the node supplies files and mining telemetry. Orbit and 5TRATUSPHERE remain usable without downloading MUXFLIGHT.

Fly in Spectate, Manual, Assisted or guided Autopilot, enter different spacecraft, recruit a formation, and explore orbit, deep space and planetary surfaces, including ice canyon runs. Theatre offers cinematic fleet views while retaining the captain’s control state. The optional audio deck includes 27 classical tracks, local music and direct internet-radio streams. Sound effects provide an explicit resume control when a browser interrupts playback. Miner allocation and recruitment controls require a compatible 5tratMux installation. OS 0.8.5 installs and verifies 5tratMux 0.9.49 or newer through the signed app updater, providing that compatibility.

Version 0.8.5 retains all previous OS and Orbit improvements, including the complete 0.8.4 Local AI installation support. Existing Mux Flight downloads update automatically to the OS-catalogued version after active flights close, and the next launch loads the new code. This does not install Mux Flight for people who have not opted in or reinstall removed downloads.

5tratMux 0.9.49 restores automatic MUX Attacks with Local AI selected. Built-in or verified rules must meet the saved evidence threshold and normal routing controls; ordinary model fleet reviews cannot launch attacks. AI-led uses a higher local evidence threshold than Balanced. OS 0.8.5 also prevents stale pool flags from overriding fresh MUX miner status in Orbit.

The Local 5TRATMUX provider now receives the signed catalogue and optional runtime installation metadata needed on a fresh system. Choose a model in 5tratMux to download and start it. The initial public runtime supports AVX2-capable Intel/AMD hosts with sufficient available RAM and storage; virtual machines must expose the required CPU features. Qwen 0.8B, 2B and 4B model weights download on demand from immutable upstream revisions with size and SHA-256 verification. They are not included in the OS archive or source repository. Local AI remains experimental and requires a paid licence; trials are excluded. Existing configured runtimes and preferences are preserved. ARM OS updates remain supported, while this optional public Local AI runtime is AMD64-only.

Local AI catalogue signatures use the existing pinned 5TRATMUX release key specifically for the add-on. The OS bundles are unsigned and retain the established SHA-256 checksum mechanism; the signed native/Local AI catalogue does not sign the whole OS archive.

These .tgz files are OS payloads, not bootable images. The installation helpers also use the payload to install onto a supported Debian, Ubuntu or Raspberry Pi OS system. OS updates continue to use the established SHA-256 checksum mechanism. The release notes describe verification and administrator-managed signature-enforcement compatibility.

Requirements

  • x86 CPU: 64-bit AMD/Intel processor. UEFI is recommended; legacy BIOS/CSM media is available for older systems.
  • x86 RAM: 16GB minimum. 32GB+ is recommended if you run multiple full-node apps.
  • x86 storage: SSD/NVMe strongly recommended. 1TB minimum for serious use; 2TB+ recommended for multiple chains/apps.
  • Raspberry Pi: Raspberry Pi 4/5, 64-bit arm64. 8GB RAM is recommended.
  • Raspberry Pi storage: 64GB microSD/SSD minimum for the OS; external SSD/NVMe is recommended for app data and chain storage.
  • Network: Wired Ethernet is strongly recommended for mining/node workloads.
  • Installer USB: 2GB+ USB drive for ISO installs.

Actual app requirements vary by chain and workload. Full nodes and multi-app fleets need more RAM, disk, and sustained cooling than a basic dashboard-only test install.

Flashing / Install

First login / finding your IP

  • WebUI credentials are created on first login (there is no default admin password).
  • Find the device on your LAN:
    • The IP is shown in the top bar of the WebUI once it loads.
    • Router/DHCP list: look for hostname 5tratumos.
    • mDNS: try http://5tratumos.local/
    • Local console on x86 installs: press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and run ip a
  • SSH on x86 ISO installs:
    • Username: forge
    • Password: 5tratum
  • SSH on Raspberry Pi images:
    • Create/enable the SSH user in Raspberry Pi Imager OS Customisation before flashing, or use a local keyboard/monitor.

Local Console (Kiosk) on physical hardware

5tratumOS can run a fullscreen local UI (kiosk) on an attached monitor/keyboard.

Important:

  • Virtual terminal switching only works on the physical device (attached monitor + keyboard).
  • You cannot switch TTYs from a web browser. For remote access, use the WebUI/SSH instead.

If you boot and only see a text login prompt (tty1):

  • The kiosk UI runs on tty7.
  • On current versions, the system will usually switch to the kiosk UI automatically once it starts.
  • tty1 also shows a banner with these shortcuts (useful if kiosk fails to start).
  • Press Ctrl+Alt+F7 to switch to the kiosk UI (sometimes Fn+Ctrl+Alt+F7 on compact keyboards/laptops).
  • If you try Ctrl+Shift+F7, it will not switch TTYs.
  • To go back to the text console, press Ctrl+Alt+F1.

Windows (Rufus) (recommended)

Rufus is the most reliable way to create a bootable 5tratumOS USB installer on Windows.

  1. Download 5tratumos-installer-<version>-uefi.iso or 5tratumos-installer-<version>-bios.iso (from the release assets)
  2. Download and run Rufus (Windows): https://rufus.ie
  3. In Rufus:
    • Device: select your USB drive
    • Boot selection: select the ISO you downloaded
    • Partition scheme:
      • UEFI ISO: GPT
      • BIOS ISO: MBR
  4. Click Start (this will erase the USB drive)
  5. Boot the target machine from the USB drive and follow the installer prompts

If Rufus asks whether to write in ISO Image mode or DD Image mode, choose DD Image mode.

Windows (Win32 Disk Imager / "WinImager")

  1. Open Win32 Disk Imager
  2. Select 5tratumos-installer-<version>-uefi.iso or 5tratumos-installer-<version>-bios.iso (you may need to choose ". / All files")
  3. Select the correct USB drive letter -> Write
  4. Boot the target machine from the USB drive and follow the installer prompts
