Restore jit_config after each FlexTensor test.
jit_config is process-global. The autouse fixture does not restore it or reset dry_run. The dry_run parameter sets the global fields, so the following fallback case and later tests can inherit dry-run mode. Other JIT fixtures do not provide a repository-wide reset.

Suggested change: a Protocol describes the manager API for type checkers. A pydantic model (from_attributes=True) checks the same fields at runtime. This replaces the hand-written getattr/isinstance checks in _status, _manager_units and _manager_id. pydantic>=2 is already a core dependency. The semantic checks stay explicit, because they give the user guidance: phase is inference, external_compile_active, unique names/ids, units owned by the model, and can_request.

Tests: an API mismatch now gives one message that lists the bad fields, for example FlexTensor manager does not match the public API: model. So in test_manager_preflight_rejects_incompatible_provider_before_installation, the expected messages become the field names: offload_units, request_strategy_replan, manager does not match the public API: model, compiled_offload_manager_id and strategy_replan_status. In test_offload_units_must_belong_to_the_current_manager_model[False], a non-nn.Module unit now fails type validation, so match offload_units there. With these updates, all 57 tests in tests/unit/torch/jit/test_flextensor.py pass on CPU, and ruff 0.16.5 check and format are clean. I did not run pytype.

The /home/.../tuning links cannot resolve because those artifacts are ignored and untracked. Either publish the artifacts at stable public URLs or state that they remain on the validation machine. Use a repository-relative link for the tracked command manifest.
Do not delete report.md, plan.md, or work_logs/flextensor/. Do not remove historical/internal references or commit handoff text without an applicable confidentiality requirement.

All seven final encoded clips decode correctly: 17 frames, 24 FPS, 0.7083 seconds and expected geometry (`media-validation.json`). They are video-only; generated audio is retained in held-out tensor artifacts for numerical diagnostics. Source/eager/combined sampled frames were inspected; eager and combined look very similar, but native generation changes source details. Human quality/source-preservation acceptance remains open.

Reconstructed equivalents and the unrecovered original dependency-install argv are explicitly labeled; a fresh-base bootstrap was not invented or claimed tested. The existing local image and task caches remain available.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Write the downloaded source to a temporary file, then rename it.
shutil.copyfileobj writes directly to the final source path. If urlopen times out or the connection drops during the copy, a truncated .ogv file stays at work_dir / "HelenHillInterview.theora.ogv". On the next run, the source.exists() check at Line 111 is true. The script then skips the download and decodes the partial file. If the truncation happens before the sampled window ends, the run fails with the misleading error "source yielded only N frames". If the truncation happens later, the run uses the bad file without a warning, and source.json records its hash. To recover, the user must find and delete the file by hand.
Download to a sibling temporary path, and rename it only after the copy finishes.

0a0ff88contains the residency/compute fix. The additive preparation helper described below is implemented and locally validated in the worktree, but is not yet committed, signed or pushed. The four author-approved documentation updates are now applied locally and independently reviewed: helper-first setup, preserved manual setup, parent-aware LTX setup, and JIT/quick-start cross-references. Local results are not CI claims for unpublished changes.Summary
Integrate unmodified public FlexTensor 0.5.0 with explicit AITune registration and externally managed placement, without changing standalone AITune's per-module tuning behavior.
The optional
aitune.torch.jit.flextensormodule provides:prepare_flextensor_units(model_or_owner, *, ft_config, target=None, name="default", load_profile_from=None): additive setup using public FT/Torch APIs and the public AITune shell. It resolves original-model name/class/parameter policies, inserts shells before FT preparation, and returnsPreparedFlexTensor(model, manager, effective_config, unit_paths).target="transformer"installs the exact FT-returned proxy on its owner, so there is no manual parent reassignment. The manual wrapping/offload path remains available.FlexTensorUnit(original_compute): insert a residency shell before FT preparation. FlexTensor prepares the outer shell; AITune registers only its original.computechild. Normal AITune compilation, warmup, correctness checks and profiling can repeat computation without replaying FT's transfer-scheduling boundary.register_flextensor_units(managers, *, modules=None): resolve final live public offload shells after FT discovery/profiling, optionally select a subset, and register their compute children in one batch withdevice_management="external".replan_flextensor(manager, registration, run_forward): explicitly measure/apply an offload strategy after tuning finishes and every serving route is warm. The wrapper retains the same original module and parameter objects; it does not copy weights. It adds a forwarding layer and
compute.to parameter/checkpoint paths. It is not attribute/type transparent, and checkpoint keys are not remapped.FlexTensor is installed separately; ordinary AITune imports and dependencies remain unchanged. Preparation does not run startup forwards, register targets, tune, warm routes or replan. The caller retains those explicit lifecycle steps and one complete registration batch across managers. The caller's FT configuration is not mutated; the effective shallow copy preserves unit boundaries and parameter residency policy. Unsupported/ambiguous translations fail before wrapping rather than silently changing policy.
Why the boundary matters
Replaying a FlexTensor-prepared unit during AITune tuning can resubmit a rolling-buffer transfer while its future consumer has not released that slot. The shell/compute split keeps one normal FT-managed outer invocation active while AITune repeats only the computation inside it. Application inference still calls the normal managed model, not isolated compute children.
The wrapper protects scheduling, not timing isolation. FT profiling must not overlap AITune tuning:
Finalization modes
external_compile=True, withoutcompile_fn. After tuning/warmup, explicitly callreplan_flextensor. Each callback invocation must execute exactly one complete manager-model forward, not a pipeline generation or denoising loop. The helper invokes it exactly the positive count requested by FT and requiresstate == "done",applied is True, preserved ownership/prepared forwards and installed AITune dispatch.profile_mode="view",external_compile=False; preparation selects the identity callback automatically. With manualoffloadoroffload_from_profile, passcompile_fn=lambda module: module. Keep FT's pre-AITune strategy and do not request replanning. These timings are not contaminated by tuning, but can become suboptimal after acceleration. Arbitrarycompile_fntransformations are not qualified. The caller supplies representative inputs, memory headroom, finite compiler limits and serving-route warmup. Setup, callback and terminal replan failures propagate; use a fresh worker. No reset, rollback, private-ticket manipulation or mid-forward joins are introduced.
Scope and compatibility
6a63158, production changes are confined to the optional FT integration files. Standalone AITune compilation, warmup, correctness, profiling, performance evaluation, fallback, defaults, configuration and cache identities remain unchanged. FT 0.5.0 is unmodified.Local validation
Current additive-helper worktree, unmodified FT 0.5.0, Python 3.12 / Torch 2.10 / RTX A6000:
nn.Moduleowner is covered. The migrated all-48-block two-stage LTX helper/profile-reuse smoke run passed: all 48 targets selected Inductor, both stages completed (256×160 then 512×320, 17 frames), and held-out video latents/audio are bit-identical to the earlier manual-shell combined run. The reused manual profile's SHA256 stayed unchanged and managed memory remained 25,396,992,512 bytes, matching that prior run. One warmup / one measured generation is functional validation, not a new speedup benchmark or perceptual-quality claim. Existing native/benchmark results below remain separately identified. No full repository-wide pytype, complete GPU functional suite, all-strategy native matrix or unpublished CI pass is claimed.
Review and UX
Design and implementation plan were independently reviewed before coding. Source/UX reviews found no new helper defect; lower-stack review found no actionable issue in #43/#45. The helper changes neither lower branch and adds no core restrictions. #43's intentional fixed-mode/one-batch/no-reset lifetime contract remains unchanged, not retroactively described as identical to main.
The explicit owner plus
target=removes parent guessing; one setup call replaces wrapping, callback selection, FT setup, manager lookup and parent assignment. Returned policy/path metadata remains inspectable, while execution and tuning stay explicit.Manual safety caveat: structural registration checks reject non-shell units but cannot prove every shell was installed before FT. Late manual wrapping is still unsafe even if structure passes; the new helper enforces the correct order for its fresh-model contract. Source/docs review records this necessary wording correction. Existing adapter dispatch validation still uses AITune internals; the new helper adds no private core/provider calls.
Real LTX example and limits
The measurements in this section are the earlier manual-shell implementation's matched experiment, not a new helper benchmark.
Add a reproducible pretrained all-48-block LTX outpainting workflow. The larger short workload uses 17 frames, 768×480 stage 1 and 1536×960 output, with three warmups and ten measured full generations per fresh-process arm.
Combined latency is 10.3% lower than FT-only and 6.4% lower than resident eager, with 28.3% less peak allocated GPU memory than resident eager. Both FT arms reuse the same unchanged retained profile: this is not a post-tuning replan benchmark. All 48 targets selected Inductor under diagnostic performance validation; that mode retains normal profiling but does not reject slower candidates. These are sequential single-machine measurements, not a statistical or general-workload speedup guarantee. The smaller default workload's 2.4% improvement over FT-only was within observed drift.
Numerical/quality qualification remains open: FT-only held-out video/audio are bit-identical to eager, but compiled video/audio fail explicit
atol=rtol=1e-2allclose diagnostics. Built-in AITune checks remain unchanged and are not eager-value allclose checks. No human/perceptual-quality acceptance or historical long-video equivalence is claimed. Encoded review clips are video-only; generated audio is retained in tensor diagnostics.Documentation and evidence
