test(functional-ci): add the toy-model functional CI suite, backend capability table, and feature matrix report - #92
knowicki-nvidia wants to merge 52 commits into
Conversation
Add tests/functional_ci: deterministic toy MLP, a shared public-API lifecycle (inspect, wrap, tune, infer, save, load into a fresh model, infer), and a Torch Eager case. Run it in the CI wheel image on the SM120 runner. Signed-off-by: Konrad Nowicki <knowicki@nvidia.com>

Pytype infers frozenset({...}) as frozenset[str], so the table now builds capability sets with _capabilities(*names: Capability), which still rejects misspelled names. test_strategies uses BACKENDS["tensorrt"].factory() instead of a copy, and the TensorRT plan runner asserts contiguous inputs instead of passing the address of a temporary copy.

…d-artifact case Add assert_matches_eager() and an expected type on selected_backend() in lifecycle.py and use them in every case. run_lifecycle returns the restored module, Tolerance is frozen, and models.seeded() replaces the copied RNG block. test_precision builds TensorRT with tensorrt_backend(**overrides) and replays every case on two new inputs. Deployable artifacts move to test_exported_artifact under a new export capability, which BackendCase keeps in step with artifact_format. PROFILING_STRATEGIES is typed as ProfilingTuneStrategy. Remove selection-checked from the dry-run test.
The max-batch test uses OneBackendStrategy with only the TensorRT backend. A successful run has no competing backend to select, so an additional selected_backend assertion is redundant.
The dry-run path calls tune_dry_run, which only describes the strategy. It does not select or activate a backend. The state != ModuleState.TUNED assertion checks the dry-run behavior, not backend selection.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Keep the matrix artifact available when collection produces no updates.
If collection fails before any marked test records a cell, pytest_sessionfinish does not write the updates file. This test -s then exits nonzero before the HTML is copied. The later upload ignores the missing artifact, so the matrix report is unavailable on this failure path. GitHub runs unspecified Linux shell steps with bash -e, which stops the script after this failure. (docs.github.com)
Copy the baseline HTML first, then run the updater only when the updates file exists.
