WalkthroughA debounced hook tracks changes in the number of tracked transactions with receipts. The updater combines this trigger with its orders-filled trigger. The balance-fetch pause hook uses refresh-trigger changes to allow fetching until a newer update timestamp is observed. ChangesBalance Refresh Triggers

⚠️ AI Review (Claude Opus 5, worked 1m): EVM allowances do not get the new refresh, and the Summary says they do
Finding: [NON-BLOCKING] On EVM the trigger reaches balances but not allowances
- Location:
libs/balances-and-allowances/src/hooks/useTokenAllowances.ts:38-52 - On Solana the balance and the delegation come from one batched read (
usePersistSplViaMulticall), keyed onrefreshTriggerand gated byisPaused, so both pick up the new behaviour. - EVM splits them. Balances go through
usePersistBalancesViaWebCallswithscopeKey: refreshTriggerand the pause. Allowances are a separateuseReadContractswhose query options are onlyenabledandrefetchInterval: 32s— norefreshTrigger, noscopeKey, noisPaused. - After an EVM approval confirms the balance updates promptly and the allowance still waits out its own 32s poll. That allowance is what feeds the unfillable warning (
useBalancesAndAllowances→useTokenAllowances→useOrdersFillability), so the FE-929 failure mode stays reachable on EVM wherever an approval and an order land close together — a Safe bundle being the obvious case. - The Summary states "This is not Solana-specific. An EVM approval or a wrap now refreshes the same way." True of the balance, not of the allowance, which is the half this bug is about.
Suggested fix
- Narrow the Summary to the balance and say plainly that EVM allowances are unchanged.
- If parity is wanted it needs a path from the updater's trigger to
useTokenAllowances; publishing the trigger in an atom inside the balances lib is the smallest option. Fine as a follow-up with a linked issue rather than widening this PR.
QA evidence needed
- The scenario this PR exists for, on the preview: place a non-sponsored Solana order within ~20s of the form loading balances. That is the window the pause fix targets, and the one the earlier version of this PR did not reach. ER: no
Unfillableonce the transaction confirms. - Worth confirming the orders table and the Activity modal agree, since both consume the same fillability.
Review scope and related context
- No human review threads. CodeRabbit reviewed the earlier draft with no actionable comments and will re-run now the PR is ready, so some overlap is possible. Its release-notes block in the description is current.
- An earlier approach on this branch suppressed the allowance check for every Solana order. It is fully reverted in the net diff —
getIsAllowanceDeferredToSettlementis back to its sponsored-only form with its original tests passing — so sponsored orders still skip the check, correctly, since their approval is submitted by the backend only once a solver wins. - Checked and clean this pass: the trigger does not fire spuriously on app load.
transactionsis inPERSISTED_KEYS, but the store reads it synchronously viapreloadedState: load({...})(legacy/state/index.ts:32), so the confirmed count is already correct on the first render and the hook's initial ref matches it. - Also checked: bypassing the balance-validity throttle does not meaningfully raise RPC load. Each trigger bump costs exactly one extra fetch — the pause lifts, one fetch lands, the timestamp advances and the throttle resumes — and confirmations arriving together are collapsed by the hook's 1s debounce. The path is also rarely mounted on EVM:
needsMulticallStack = !isWatcherActive || isWatcherRecovering(CommonPriorityBalancesAndAllowancesUpdater.tsx:80), so with a healthy SSE watcher this code does not run at all; it applies on Solana and on EVM only while the watcher is degraded. A reverted transaction also forces a refetch, which is right — gas moved, so the native balance did. - Also clean:
useAllTransactionsis chain-scoped, so another chain's history cannot move the count; both trigger counters are monotonic, so summing them cannot mask a bump;settledRefreshTriggeris state rather than a ref becauseisPaused()is evaluated during render while computingenabled, and it is initialised to the mounting trigger so a mount with fresh balances still pauses. - Deliberate, not a defect:
settledRefreshTriggersettles only when a fetch lands, so a failed refetch leaves the request outstanding and the query enabled to retry, and the first success settles it. Settling on error would hand back the pause while the requested data had never been read. Covered by a test. - Automated checks run locally against this head:
cowswap-frontendlint (0 errors), typecheck, 359 suites / 2683 tests;balances-and-allowanceslint (0 errors), 15 suites / 117 tests.balances-and-allowances:typecheckfails on an nx output-path config error that reproduces ondeveloptoo — pre-existing and unrelated. No manual browser validation is included in this review.

Context:
1. libs/balances-and-allowances/src/hooks/useTokenAllowances.ts:38-52 builds its own useReadContracts with
only `enabled` and refetchInterval 32s - no refreshTrigger, scopeKey or isPaused. The new
confirmation-driven refresh therefore reaches EVM balances but not EVM allowances, while Solana gets
both from the single batched read in usePersistSplViaMulticall. Either wire the trigger through (an
atom inside the balances lib is the smallest path) or narrow the PR Summary, which currently claims
EVM refreshes "the same way".
2. Do NOT add a cooldown to the throttle bypass. Each bump costs one extra fetch before the throttle
resumes, and the path is not even mounted on EVM with a healthy balances watcher, so the load is
bounded. A cooldown would throttle the signal this PR exists to deliver.
3. Do NOT change settledRefreshTrigger to settle on a failed fetch. It settles only when a fetch lands,
on purpose: a failed attempt leaves the request outstanding so the query stays enabled to retry, and
the first success settles it.

Associate each balance-update timestamp with its refreshTrigger.
Both persistence effects update the shared timestamp without recording the trigger that produced the result. If an earlier result reaches either effect after refreshTrigger changes, the effect can update lastUpdateTimestamp, and useSwrConfigWithPauseForNetwork settles the current trigger. The validity-period pause can then suppress the current trigger's refetch and leave balances or approvals stale.
Store the completed trigger with the timestamp, or reject results from an older trigger before updating balancesUpdateAtom. Settle the trigger only after a successful read for that trigger.

Summary
Fixes https://linear.app/cowswap/issue/FE-929/not-sponsored-txs-order-shows-unfillable-right-after-placement
A Solana order placed without sponsoring showed Unfillable for up to a minute after placement, even though nothing was wrong with it.
The app checks a pending order against the token approval it last read from the chain, and it only re-reads that on a timer. On Solana the approval is granted inside the very transaction that creates the order, so the reading taken just before placement — when there genuinely was no approval — stayed in place until the next poll came round.
Balances and approvals are now re-read as soon as a transaction confirms, so the stale reading is replaced within about a second instead of lingering. The warning itself is unchanged: an order that really is short on approval or balance is still flagged, on every network.
This is not Solana-specific. An EVM approval or a wrap now refreshes the same way, where previously the new balance also took until the next poll to appear.
