Calendar V5: the new-calendar wizard, with presets, import and sensible defaults #764
Why this issue exists: the "calendar generator" (building a new calendar) was ruled into V5 but appeared only inside a linked design brief, not as its own line anywhere. It kept getting lost.
What the operator wants:
The setup should be delightful, not just functional: "sensible defaults, idea/hint bubbles, cards, animations, real visual polish" (Cordinator plans/BACKLOG.md, E2).
Where it lives, ruled 2026-08-21: building a new calendar starts from the Calendars dashboard ("+ New calendar"). Editing an existing calendar's structure opens in place, behind the calendar's own Settings door (Cordinator plans/2026-08-21-calendar-v5-design-brief.md, "Multi-calendar & setup").
What it covers: months, including between-month days; weekdays and rest days; leap rules; moons (cycle, colour, whether players can see them); seasons; eras; event categories. Also: start from a preset, import, export.
Already in the code, unused today:
internal/plugins/calendar/presets.go with presets/{blank,dwarven,elven,harptos}.json, each a full calendar.
import.go, which reads Chronicle's own format, Simple Calendar, Calendaria and Fantasy-Calendar.
Nothing calls either one yet, so the wizard is mostly new UI over existing domain code.
Done when: a mockup of the wizard is signed, and V5 ships it following the motion rules in #760.
Signed: the Calendars page and new-calendar setup (mockup version 2, 26 September). The operator approved it on the sign-off page. The build must match that mockup. What it settles:
Calendar cards are basic and all the same size: the name, the world's date, tonight's main moon, a "Main calendar" badge where it applies, and who can see it. There is no mini month, week layout or era line on a card. A card that isn't the main calendar leaves the badge spot empty, so every name sits at the same height.
Pressing a card opens a preview. On desktop the card hinges open like a book cover; on phones the preview grows from the card as a sheet. The preview shows this month, today's weather, tonight's moons and what's coming up.
"Open calendar" folds the preview out into the full calendar. The top bar folds down, the side folds out, and the month slides over whole. The full calendar is a spread of panels, not one big sheet. Days keep a comfortable minimum width, and a short month's days grow taller to fill the page.
One list of event categories for the whole campaign, shared by all of its calendars (the operator's answer on the card).
The importer keeps what today's version drops: rest days, the world's date, hidden moons (as Director-only), leap rules and the day each era began. That means an era can begin on a given day, not only on the first day of a year. This is a change to how eras are stored.
A Real world calendar joins the presets. It isn't drawn in the mockup yet.
A structure change that would move events says so in plain words and never deletes an event.
New calendar: start from a preset, an import or the generator, then one short review. The review can give the world a past: eras and major events, filed under History and never mixed into what's coming up.
