Calendar V5: game nights, RSVPs and availability built into the calendar, as signed #837

What

The signed "Calendar V5 · game nights" mockup (approved 2026-09-27) puts game nights on a real-world calendar inside the calendar itself. One RSVP system replaces the separate pieces the old calendar and the sessions plugin had. None of it is built yet; this issue is the to-do.

From the mockup:

  • RSVP in the day's card: each game night's box has its RSVP:

    • Yes / Maybe / No;
    • a count;
    • a roster with each person's answer and note.

    Silence shows as "no answer yet", never as a no. The event's full page shows the same.

  • Availability: each member paints the hours they can play. It repeats every week, in their own time zone.

  • Everyone's local time: times show in the viewer's own zone. Until they set one, they show in the calendar's zone, labelled like CDT.

  • Personal calendar links: a person's link holds only what they can see: game nights and who's away. Director-only plans never go into anyone's link, and answers and notes stay on Chronicle. This overlaps Give each player a revocable calendar feed (.ics) of game sessions #636.

  • Motion and cards: the same fold-out day card and event page as the rest of V5.

The operator's recorded answers when signing (the questions are on the sign-offs page):

  • "Yes, on for every campaign, and the owner can switch it off"
  • "The four seasons of its zone's half of the world"
  • "Yes, like any member, with a switch to leave themselves out"
  • "The calendar's own zone, labelled like CDT, with the browser's zone offered in one press"

    First part is in draft PR #912: game nights show on a real-world calendar's days, and members answer Going / Maybe / Can't with a note in the day's card. The night's page shows the whole roster and the organiser's count-me switch. Each night of a series keeps its own answers.

    Still open here:

    • placing nights on a fantasy calendar through its real-date anchor;
    • each viewer's own zone, or the calendar's zone (times show in the organiser's set zone, labelled);
    • the answer-by date and the Director's "ask the ones who haven't answered";
    • availability painting and personal calendar links in the calendar;
    • pointing the Sessions page and sidebar links at the calendar.

    Gotcha: the calendar's own zone is json:"-" on Calendar.RealTimeZone, so the page can't read it yet.

    Pre-deploy check: part of this is done on main. Game nights, RSVPs, time zones and world calendars are done (#912, #962, #1020); still left: answer-by dates, nudges for people who have not answered, and personal calendar links.
