The final release supports both direct installation on a prepared Asahi Arch
Minimal system and upgrades from an existing working Omarchy Mac installation.
The complete release regression runs on the 14-inch 2021 MacBook Pro with M1
Pro (apple,j314s); other M1, M2, and M3 models depend on their upstream Asahi
Linux support.
Keep Ethernet available and back up important data before upgrading. The
historical asahi-quattro-channel release is the immutable sequence-21
bootstrap and cannot be repointed. Existing sequence-21 users must run the
signed one-time bridge below before returning to a normal omarchy update:

curl -fLO "$release/install-asahi-quattro"

bash install-asahi-quattro --verify-only --release-tag asahi-quattro-fe8d2bf8
bash install-asahi-quattro --yes --release-tag asahi-quattro-fe8d2bf8
omarchy updateRun the bridge as the regular Omarchy user, without sudo. It installs the
exact signed sequence-25 release before the final normal update. New
installations download the same verified sequence-25 bootstrap and run
bash install-asahi-quattro --verify-only --release-tag asahi-quattro-fe8d2bf8, followed by bash install-asahi-quattro --fresh --release-tag asahi-quattro-fe8d2bf8 as root on prepared Asahi Arch Minimal.
Both paths require Apple Silicon, linux-asahi from [asahi-alarm] (not a
recipe in this repository), and the Arch Linux ARM/Asahi
repositories; updates also require NetworkManager's iwd backend. The installer
needs only bsdtar, curl, gpg, pacman, pacman-conf, and sha256sum,
all present on Asahi Arch Minimal, and does not depend on jq. It verifies
the numbered channel, immutable release descriptor, exact six-package
manifest, checksums, and signatures before changing the system.
For reproducible initial migration, select an immutable signed release with
--release-tag asahi-quattro-SOURCE8. Recurring updates reject package and
release-sequence rollbacks. Omarchy 3 is legacy. The historical
asahi-quattro-d3c9064f release predates the signed channel format and remains
available at its original URL, but is not selected as latest.
This repository builds three Aurora kernel recipes — pkgbuilds/linux-aurora-rc,
pkgbuilds/linux-aurora-stable, and pkgbuilds/linux-aurora-edge — all shipping
pkgbase linux-aurora. Lane selection is an authenticated [omarchy-aurora]
repository choice with an explicit downgrade; package versions are not ordered
across lanes. linux-asahi is not packaged here: it comes from the
[asahi-alarm] repository.
Only the edge lane carries kernel patches that aurora-wip does not have yet: each
file listed with its sha256 in pkgbuilds/linux-aurora-edge/patches is applied on
top of the aurora-wip head. rc and stable take a fix only through a
hardware-qualified pin of an aurora-silicon/linux commit that contains it.
Build system for the Omarchy Package Repository. Builds PKGBUILDs from local sources and AUR, signs them, and syncs to production.
Multi-Architecture: Supports both x86_64 and aarch64 (ARM64).
Each package lives directly under pkgbuilds/<package>/ and carries Omarchy metadata in .omarchy/package.json.
The filesystem no longer encodes release policy. Instead:
- all packages build for
edge - packages with
"release_ring": "fast"also build directly forstable - all other packages reach
stableby promoting tested edge artifacts withbin/repo migrate - AUR sync behavior is controlled by
source, sync, aur, patches, and hooks in.omarchy/ - packages can opt out of unscoped builds with
skip_build; explicit--packagebuilds remain available
To build ARM64 packages on x86_64, enable QEMU emulation:
# Run after each reboot
docker run --privileged --rm tonistiigi/binfmt --install arm64
# Verify
docker run --rm --platform linux/arm64 alpine:latest uname -m
# Should output: aarch64Note: aarch64 builds use QEMU and slower than native x86_64 builds.
Promote packages from edge build, then sync stable:
bin/repo migrate
bin/repo sync --mirror stable
The release command is smart and incremental - it only builds packages that have changed or are missing. You generally don't need to specify a package manually unless you are debugging a specific failure.
# Build changed/new packages, sign, promote, clean, update, and sync
bin/repo release
# Stable Mirror
bin/repo release --mirror stable
# ARM64
bin/repo release --arch aarch64
# Force build specific package (useful for debugging failures)
bin/repo release --package omarchy-nvim
# Show what would build without signing/promoting/syncing

bin/repo sign # Sign packages
bin/repo promote # Copy to production
bin/repo clean # Remove old versions
bin/repo update # Update database
bin/repo sync # Sync to remoteThese flags can be used with all commands:

bin/repo build # All packages (x86_64, edge)

bin/repo signFetches GPG key from 1Password or environment, signs all packages in build-output/. Supports --arch and --mirror.
bin/repo promote # Copy to production
bin/repo promote --arch aarch64 # ARM64
bin/repo promote --dry-run # PreviewCopies signed packages from build-output/ → pkgs.omarchy.org/.
bin/repo clean # Keep 2 versions
bin/repo clean --keep 3 # Keep 3 versions
bin/repo clean --dry-run # PreviewRemoves old package versions from the file system. Does not update the database.
bin/repo update # Update databaseUpdates the repository database (adding the newest version of each package). Run this after promote or clean.
bin/repo sync # Sync current arch/mirror
bin/repo sync --mirror stable # Sync stable
bin/repo sync --arch aarch64 # Sync ARM64
bin/repo sync --skip-prod-check # No confirmationSyncs package repositories to the remote server using rclone based on the configured mirror and architecture.

Each source package has Omarchy metadata at pkgbuilds/<package>/.omarchy/package.json.
Minimal examples:
{ "source": "aur" }{ "source": "aur", "sync": false }{ "source": "aur", "release_ring": "fast" }{ "source": "local" }{ "source": "local", "skip_build": true }{ "source": "aur", "pkgrel": { "suffix": 1 } }Fields:
source:aurorlocalsync: optional for AUR packages; defaults totrue. Setfalsefor AUR-origin packages that Omarchy maintains manually.aur: optional AUR package name when it differs from the local package directory, usually for split packages.release_ring: optional.fastmeans the package is built directly for stable as well as edge. Packages without a ring build in edge and reach stable through tested artifact promotion (bin/repo migrate).skip_build: optional boolean; defaults tofalse. Settrueto exclude a package from scheduled version checks and unscoped builds. The package can still be built explicitly withbin/repo release --package <name>.pkgrel: optional Omarchy pkgrel suffix for a version-pinned rebuild bump. This emits<aur pkgrel>.<suffix>instead of replacing AUR's pkgrel.offsetcan be used only when preserving monotonic upgrades from old absolute pkgrel bumps. The metadata is removed automatically when AUR sync changespkgver; the current package version is read from the checked-in PKGBUILD, so the version is not duplicated in JSON.upstream_commit: set bybin/sync-aurfor AUR packages. Used bybin/package-worktreeto recreate the exact raw AUR package that Omarchy last synced.
- Edge unscoped builds (
--mirror edge): packages inpkgbuilds/*unless"skip_build": true - Stable unscoped builds (
--mirror stable): packages with"release_ring": "fast"unless"skip_build": true - Explicit builds (
--package <name>): the selected package, including packages with"skip_build": true, subject to mirror eligibility - Stable promotion (
bin/repo migrate): copies tested edge artifacts into stable
bin/add-package package-name
bin/repo release --package package-namebin/add-package package-name --fast
bin/repo release --package package-name
bin/repo release --mirror stable --package package-namebin/add-package package-name --no-syncFor static changes, create pkgbuilds/package-name/.omarchy/patches/*.patch to maintain modifications across AUR syncs.
The recommended workflow is to use a scratch workspace:
bin/package-worktree package-name --dir /tmp/package-name-worktreeThis creates:
upstream/ # raw AUR package at upstream_commit
patched/ # AUR + existing Omarchy .omarchy customizations
current/ # current checked-in package directory
Patch-authoring flow:
# 1. Make the intended change in pkgbuilds/package-name/
# 2. Recreate the scratch workspace
bin/package-worktree package-name --dir /tmp/package-name-worktree
# 3. Inspect drift from patched -> current
# For multi-file changes, inspect this and split into focused patches.
diff -ruN /tmp/package-name-worktree/patched /tmp/package-name-worktree/current
# For a single PKGBUILD change, write a patch like this:
mkdir -p pkgbuilds/package-name/.omarchy/patches
(
cd /tmp/package-name-worktree/patched
diff -u --label a/PKGBUILD --label b/PKGBUILD \
PKGBUILD /tmp/package-name-worktree/current/PKGBUILD || true
) > pkgbuilds/package-name/.omarchy/patches/my-fix.patch
# 4. Verify the package is reproducible from AUR + .omarchy
bin/sync-aur package-name
bin/package-worktree package-name --dir /tmp/package-name-check
diff -ruN /tmp/package-name-check/patched /tmp/package-name-check/currentFor dynamic changes that depend on the current upstream version, add pkgbuilds/package-name/.omarchy/post-sync.sh. The hook runs after the AUR package is copied into a temporary worktree and before the Omarchy pkgrel suffix is applied. After patches/hooks/metadata pkgrel overrides, bin/sync-aur removes AUR-only .SRCINFO and .gitignore files before writing the package back.
bin/add-package my-package --local --scaffold
# Fill in PKGBUILD and package files
bin/repo release --package my-package- Native builds (fast)
- Mirrors: mirror.omarchy.org, rackspace, pkgbuild.com
- QEMU emulation required on x86_64 hosts (slower)
- Uses Arch Linux ARM repositories
- Additional repos:
[alarm],[aur] - Same workflow, just add
--arch aarch64
# Build x86_64
bin/repo release --package myapp
# Build aarch64
bin/repo release --arch aarch64 --package myapp
# Sync both
bin/repo sync
bin/repo sync --arch aarch64omarchy-dev and omarchy-settings-dev must be built together from the same
source. Normal builds use the full commit in pkgbuilds/omarchy-source.conf;
set OMARCHY_SOURCE_COMMIT to another full commit for a one-off pinned build.
Both packages expose omarchy-quattro-bundle=<commit> in package provides
metadata so the upgrader can reject a mismatched pair.
For local development, set OMARCHY_SRC to an Omarchy Git checkout. Its HEAD
replaces the configured commit and the checkout contents are copied into both
packages. The checkout must be clean so the recorded bundle ID describes its
exact contents:
OMARCHY_SRC=/path/to/omarchy bin/build --arch aarch64 \
--package omarchy-settings-dev omarchy-devAfter collecting the six packages required by the Apple Silicon upgrader in one directory, generate the canonical release manifest. The producer rejects extra archives and records the fixed package sequence, name, version, architecture, filename, SHA-256 checksum, and shared source bundle identity:
bin/asahi-bundle-manifest /path/to/quattro-packagesPrepare detached signatures, an immutable release descriptor, and the signed latest-channel pointer using the existing Omarchy package-signing key:
ASAHI_QUATTRO_SEQUENCE=6 bin/release-asahi-quattro /path/to/quattro-packages \
/path/to/omarchy-upgrade-to-quattro --output /path/to/releaseThe command is local-only by default. After inspecting the output and testing
the bootstrap, add --publish to create the immutable stable release and its
new numbered asahi-quattro-channel-N release. Published channel releases are
never repointed or replaced. Publication requires gh authentication and the
Omarchy secret key in the caller's GPG keyring. GPG_PASSPHRASE supports
non-interactive detached signing. Release tags are derived from the manifest's
full source commit, and pkgbuilds/omarchy-source.conf remains the canonical
source pin.
The protected GitHub workflow supports verify and publish modes. Verification
is the safe default: it builds or reuses all package inputs and validates the
exact bundle without reading signing secrets or changing releases. Publication
performs the same preparation, then enters the protected environment to sign and
publish. Set force_rebuild when validating build-system changes or bypassing
package reuse.
Four source-independent packages are reused byte-for-byte from the previous
signed immutable release when their package and common builder Git inputs are
unchanged. The two source-bound Omarchy packages always rebuild in parallel
with the reusable packages. Their release build installs declared build and
test dependencies, then defers runtime dependency resolution until all six
archives are available. Reuse verifies
the previous channel, release, manifest, package signature, checksum, and
.PKGINFO; corruption fails the release rather than silently rebuilding. A
normal key mismatch or a predecessor from before the reuse contract causes a
full build.
Package groups run on separate ARM runners and converge through short-lived workflow artifacts before signing. Docker builder layers use GitHub's Actions cache, but cache eviction only makes a run slower: signed release assets remain the durable package source and every cache miss performs a complete build. Before signing, a disposable ARM package environment creates a highest-priority repository from the exact six archives and requires pacman to resolve those exact bundled versions as one transaction.
Run the focused producer test with:
test/asahi-bundle-manifest
test/asahi-package-build-key
test/asahi-package-reuse
test/deferred-runtime-depsThe build system automatically handles inter-package dependencies:
- Parses
depends=()andmakedepends=()from PKGBUILDs - Builds in correct order
- Makes newly-built packages available via temporary
[omarchy-build]repo
Example: If aether depends on hyprshade, hyprshade is built first.
Packages are only rebuilt if:
- PKGBUILD version is newer than repository version
- Package doesn't exist in production
The repository includes GitHub workflows and systemd services for automated releases.
- sync-aur.yml (Every 6 hours): Syncs AUR packages according to
.omarchy/package.jsonand opens a PR when changes are found.
- check-versions (Every 6 hours at :30): Pulls latest from git, compares PKGBUILD versions to published versions, creates state files if builds are needed
- auto-release-edge (Every 6 hours at +1:00): If state file exists, builds all edge packages that need updates
- auto-release-stable (Every 6 hours at +1:00): If state file exists, builds
release_ring=fastpackages for stable (runs in parallel with edge)
